New Date for Tecumseh Trail Marathon
holzhausTecumseh Trail Marathon, traditionally held the first Saturday in December, has been moved to a new date for 2014. Tecumseh Trail Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, October 25.
Hoosier Hikers Council, the volunteer-based group which built and maintains the trail (and manages aid stations and course preparation for the marathon) requested the change of date. The primary reasons are the safety of volunteers and to reduce the likelyhood of weather-related issues. Tecumseh Trail Marathon is unique in its point-to-point course through very remote areas. This course design makes access by volunteers a real challenge even in the best of weather.
There are benefits to the participants as well, such as:
- being clear of hunting season
- less risk of ice and mud
- less risk of hypothermia and frostbite.
- weather more conducive to camping, post-race socializing, etc.
- extension of the time cutoff at mile 22 (to 5 pm) - reducing pressure on slower runners

As a TTM streaker (one of two people who've run them all) I really hate to see this change. I plan my calendar to allow for this run each year. This change of date may make participation this year impossible. 2013 was an exceptional weather year, and the unforeseen weather is one thing that's always kept TTM interesting and challenging. Oh well...still holding a new ultra on Dec 6th. Guess the weather's better in Jackson County.
